Gudauri Ski Resort - Winter's Palace

Where is Gudauri Resort and how to reach?
Gudauri is the closest ski resort to Tbilisi. It takes approximately 2.30 hours to travel by car. The distance from Tbilisi to Gudauri resort is 125 km's. From Kutaisi Airport to Gudauri is about 300km. But the weather may slow down the ride to the resort.. We recommend you to always check the weather forecast in advance before traveling anywhere. The resort's base lift is situated above 2100 meters from the sea level, so the weather here can be very tough.To reach Gudauri Resort you can travel by mini-van, taxi or car. Ski time
To reach ski slopes there are 6 elevators. The lift which goes to the highest slope is open and in windy weather can be very cold, you may even freeze to the chair :). We suggest to bring with you warm clothes and other accessories, which may not be available to rent in Gudauri.
The daily passes for lift costs 10$ for adults and 8$ for children. Working hours are from 10:00 am to 17:00 in the evening. On Weekends you can even ski at night.
To rent Ski equipment, such as: shoes and skis can be found at hotel Marco Polo or on the opposite side of Smart. Average price is 10$ per day.
The snow cover may reach 1.5 m. Ski trails are well developed, all FIS certified. The resort's ski trail includes a 22-kilometer ski trail of easy difficulty, 25 km long of medium difficulty and 10 km level of difficult path.
Gudauri is for everybody, it is the place everyone can enjoy - adults and youth, beginners and professionals. It offers Snowboarding, Slalom and Free ride. Also Heliskiing is available for aprox. 600$ including 3 tries.
After the active day you can relax at any restaurant and enjoy Georgian Cousine, which as you might know is very rich and tasty.
Safety
The Gudauri Emergency Medical Unit has trained professionals and equipment allowing visitors to have peace of mind while enjoying their adventures on the mountain. They are mainly a First Aid and Rescue station with Tbilisi Hospital serving as the source of primary care, If you ever will be in an emergency, dial 112.

Ananuri Fortress
On the way to Gudauri you will notice the castle from the XVI century, called Ananury Fortress. The castle is on the UNESCO Tentative list. Within the complex are two churches. The fortress overlooks the Zhinvali reservoir, which provides Tbilisi with drinking and utility water. The views of the reservoir and surrounding mountains are spectacular.
Entrance to the fortress is free. This is a spectacular fortress with amazing views and is worth to visit!

Gergeti Trinity Church
The old Georgian Church is located under the Mount Kazbek, 2170m above the town of Stepantsminda (former Kazbegi) and village of Gergeti which name it had adopted. The church is widely known as Gergeti trinity Church, Georgians call it Gergeti Tsminda Sameba. Gergeti Trinity Church is above Stepantsminda and thus it seems an impossible experience to climb up to it, but in fact ascent goes quite easy taking only an hour walk up the serpentine road and a thorny forest. Those who prefer not to walk can rent a car with a driver who will ride you up there in 10 minutes. Very often it happens that alpinists conquering the peak spend the night near the church to become acclimatized to new conditions. But this happens only in Summer :) Now, because of heavy snowfalls, roads could be closed, even till Gudauri. Even if the road will be accessible, to reach the Gergeti Trinity church we recomend to hire the driver or 4x4 Delicas at place. They are located at the center of Stephantsminda, you will notice them for sure. Exparianced drivers will bring you to the destination without any issues, while many tourists with hired vehicles have been stucked there and to repair the vehicle on this road is almost impossible.
